Small Pine Bench With Storage, Sweden Circa 1840-60

This delightful bench is a special find due to the unique small size. It was originally designed as a spare bed for a child; note how the seat lifts off to reveal storage space inside. When extended, the interior could house a small mattress similar to a modern day futon.
Today, most choose to simply use the bench interior as extra storage, but the origin and use of this bench was quite traditional in Sweden during the 1800's.
Restored, strong and stable. The wax finish brings out the warm patina of the aged wood while the turned spindles, finials and feet add to its country charm.
Any scratches, cracks, dings, or age related separation are reflective of age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this special accent table.
