This delightful pine table comes from the Swedish countryside. The original faux wood painted finish was the folk art style of the era. The folk art painted finish is a combination of brick red and black which creates the "grain" appearance.
The graceful lines of the cabriole legs carry upwards through the attractive scalloped apron on this delightful Swedish side table. on each side there is a small tray which extends, originally to hold candles. Delicate hand-painted blue flourishes add a touch of romance.
There is a tremendous amount of character packed into a small space in this unique English table with it's removable black painted metal tray. Notice the mother of pearl inlay that is inserted on the flat of the tray at each of the four folk art painted points.
Not only craftsmanship but ingenuity is revealed as this table also serves as a cabinet. The elaborate hand-painted finish is original. With double monogram and date of 1813, it was likely a special wedding present at the time is was crafted.
