This lovely cupboard from Sweden has an enduring appeal due to the original hand-painted details that still display beautifully even after so many years. Notice the personal names and monograms that crown the top with date of 1834, an indication that this was likely a commissioned wedding or aniversary present to the couple. The deep green painted panel doors show off a colorful spray of flowers in formal vases, which was a favorite painted motif throughout the 1800's in Europe. The vertical carved lines in the lower cabinets were also traditional, highlighted in this cupboard with green and black paint. The entire earth toned background has a faux-wood appearance which was "the style" of the period as well. Age related wear is shown in the close up photos, please enlarge to examine in detail.
